Community

By introducing new recruitment possibilities to the local community, we insured a substantial improvement of their livelihoods.  Elevation of economic stability, crime reduction, the providing of concrete housing as an incentive, a new school for local children, and even building new roads, the lack of which is also a major problem, still abundant in Madagascar. The chicken, brought up in our farm, contributes to nutritional health of the local community by providing this beneficial protein for a highly affordable price.

Ecology

The slash-and-burn agriculture, is one of the major factors of the soil devastation in Madagascar. The land we overtook when coming into the Toamasina region, was no exception. By cleaning out the then-existent Ravenala and Anjavidy (Malagasy for “a heather that grows on the bad earths”), and subsequently planting the Bonara (Albizia lebbeck) trees, not only have we insured the shading of our beloved vanilla plants, a factor, substantial to its successful cultivation, but also, by doing so, contributed to improving the soil by providing additional hydration brought by these magnificent trees. Last, but not least, reforestation of the Bonara trees, so generous in providing clean oxygen, is beneficial not just to Madagascar, but to our planet Earth.
